Thomas Conzelmann is Associate Professor of International Relations and EU External Relations at Maastricht University. Since 1 September 2009 he also serves as Research Director and as Associate Dean for Research in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. A political scientist by training, he teaches a range of courses in the BA/MA European Studies and in the Research Master European Studies.
Before coming to Maastricht, Thomas was Assistant Professor of International Relations at the University of Darmstadt (2001-2007). Prior to this, he was Lecturer and Researcher at the Mannheim Center for European Social Research (MZES) and the University of Mannheim, where he also completed his PhD (2002, magna cum laude). During his doctoral studies he spent a year as Visiting Research Fellow at the London School of Economics and Political Science and at the University of Birmingham.
Thomas studied at Berlin (FU), the Victoria University of Manchester and the University of Heidelberg. He holds a 1st class honours MA degree in Political Science (major) and Public Law / History (minors) from the University of Heidelberg.
Thomas has recently earned a prestigious NWO VIDI grant for research on the authority of peer reviews in international organisations.
