ResearchMy research areas are: philosophical aesthetics, visual culture, media theory, art history.
My main topics are:
- The construction of spectatorship in contemporary visual art and culture: I am particularly interested in the phenomenology of spectatorship in interactive media art, installations and painting (see under Publications: At the Edges of Vision)
- Theory and ethics of the conservation of contemporary art: As project leader of the collaborative NWO funded research programme New strategies in the conservation of contemporary art (University of Amsterdam; Rijksdienst Cultureel Erfgoed) I develop a framework for conservation theory and ethics (see under Links)
- Processes of globalization in contemporary art and media: in this context I have written about modern and contemporary art in India.
